HEADS-InWheel Feasibility study of direct drive in-wheel machines and new motor design concept

Description: The evaluation of advantages and drawbacks of different concepts of the traction drives for electric vehicles, potential technologies and their availability - with focus on machines for direct application in the vehicle’s wheels, i.e. in-wheel machines.
Based on the findings, the next project activities included conceptual design and initial development steps of the new permanent magnet outer rotor in-wheel machine for the direct electric drive of a pallet forklift.

    The new motor/generator is distinguished by:
  • compact and modular construction;
  • small weight;
  • high specific torque;
  • optimal characteristics for low speed and high torque in BLAC drive with sine PWM;
