Domel, TECES and UM-FERI implementing joint applicative research project titled High-energy-efficiency system of sensorless control of electric devices for very broad speed range

One of
TECES’s priority tasks is also linking up with companies and research organisations with the aim of creating new know-how and products based on leading-edge know-how and solutions.
For this purpose, TECES as the project stakeholder,
UM-FERI as a partner and
Domel d.o.o. as a partner and co-financier, joined forces in an applicative research project titled
High-energy-efficiency system of sensorless control of electric devices for very broad speed range. The project, under way since 1 May 2009, ends on 30 April 2012, is co-funded by
ARRS – the Slovenian Research Agency (refer to SICRIS for more on this project).
The objective of the proposed project is
to develop an advanced, energy-efficient system of sensorless control of permanent magnet synchronous motor, which would, among other applications, be usable in very demanding blower drives. The latter are components of fuel cells and central air conditioning systems.
The specific nature of the application requires reliable, high-efficiency operation in a very broad speed range. It starts with negative speeds, continues with zero speeds and ends with speeds of several tens of thousands of revolutions per minute.
In order to meet these requirements, an appropriate sensorless control algorithm and modern hardware will be developed within the project to suit the requirements of the drive, and will consist of a control system and a converter circuit.
