TECES with the participation of 59 partners prepared and submitted the initiative to the Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy public call for the preparation of Slovenian Smart specialization strategy

TECES has on 25th May 2015 on the behalf of 59 partner organizations submitted the initiative "System efficient energy use and conversion and energy efficient systems", as a response to an open call of the Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy to define most promising technologies and products to steer the Smart specialization strategy (SSS) of the Republic of Slovenia (RS). The initiative involves some of the most important Slovenian export-oriented companies (45 companies with 14,300 employees, with total sales revenues of 2.3 billion and exports of selected companies € 1.6 billion) and 35 research groups from 13 different research organizations.

The initiative is highly oriented towards innovative products, which are considered to be able to reach a level of technological maturity, which enables market entering of products no later than in 2020. With a aim to comprehensive treat of the energy efficiency, the initiative addresses four key application areas: electrification of vehicles (powertrains, batteries, electric motors, electronic converters, power systems, ...) and electric mobility (charging station infrastructure, ICT technology integration, protection), energy efficiency (electrical) energy use in buildings and homes (smart and energy-efficient household appliances, control systems, lighting, ICT solutions), sustainable energy management and energy resources (systems for control and management, sustainable power generation including cogeneration of electricity and heat , smart infrastructure systems, communication systems, instrumentation) and smart industrial mechatronic systems (flexible production lines, storage systems, smart tools, management systems).

On the field of system efficiency and conversion of energy and energy-efficient systems the Slovenian industry have the real industrial potential, the initiative partners are in their respective niches aready are among the leading companies in the world. The partners are planning to increase the added value of their products by integrating a variety of technologies and ICT, leading to the strengthened and upgraded product range and related services, energy sustainability and sustainable technologies.

At the same time, the field of efficiency of energy conversion and energy-efficient systems, addressed by the initiative, is of vital importance from the standpoint of social and economic development and is fully in line with the development guidelines of the EU (the strategy for 2020 and 2050) and SSS RS. The initiative anticipates the development of a framework for 400 new products, which are envisioned to raise the value of exports of selected companies involved from € 1.6 billion in 2014 to € 2.4 billion in 2020.

With coordinated action of partners, the convincing systematically organised and real arguments to clearly define the scope of Systemically efficiency and energy conversion (SURE), and energy-efficient systems within the Smart specialization strategies Slovenia as one of the key areas where Slovenia has the potential for a more prominent role in the world scale, have been presented.
